Sports Editor
The Sports Editor will ensure that every sport on campus as well as intramural sports are covered in accordance with demand. Football coverage will be expected to include extensive features on players, coaches, media coverage of the football team or its fans, student and otherwise. The Sports Editor will also produce a full budget of stories for Gameday Magazine and work with the Lead Magazine Designer and Production Editor to produce the magazine.
Position: Paid
The Sports Editor will:
- be ultimately responsible for assigning all sports stories (about 24) every week.
- be in the newsroom daily to read and edit sports stories as they come in on deadline (4 p.m.)
- assist the Production Editor in maintaining sports beats, ensuring that stories don’t drop and editing stories daily
- perform other day-to-day tasks related to helping sports reporters get the information and help they need.
This position requires:
- knowledge of University of Alabama sports
- the ability to establish a beats system that includes all sports and ensure in-depth stories regularly come from them
- prior sports reporting experience and proficiency (benefits from a strong portfolio of clips)
