Assistant Photo Editor

The Assistant Photo Editor will work with the Photo Editor to develop photo ideas for stories and make sure that no story comes in without a photograph. He or she will work with the Photo Editor to cultivate photographers and assign photography assignment to photographers. Both the Photo Editor and Assistant Photo Editor will work with the Multimedia Editor to develop engaging galleries and photo projects for cw.ua.edu

Position: Paid

The Assistant Photo Editor will:

• edit photos in Adobe Photoshop daily
• help the Photo Editor to lead and coordinate a team of photographers
• take instruction from the Visuals Editor on feature photography assignments and ensure that a photographer can produce the photo needed
• be on-call for breaking news instances and be able at all times to assign a photographer or take a photo himself or herself of an event on campus
• stay in contact with desk editors to assure the coverage of events
• work with graphic designers to create feature photo illustrations
• create adventurous, story-telling photos
• Create galleries and photo projects for cw.ua.edu

This position requires:

• flexibility to cover events at various times throughout the day
• extensive knowledge and proficiency with Adobe Photoshop
• considerable prior photography experience
• ability to gather information from photo subjects to write the necessary captions
• ability to work with and lead a team
